White Madeira #1
✓ VerifiedPortugal (Madeira lineage)
White Madeira #1 originated on the island of Madeira, Portugal, and shares essentially all the same leaf shape, neck characteristics, and flavor intensity as Black Madeira/Figo Preto, differing specifically in its light green rather than black skin. The fruit has yellow-green skin, mainly three-lobed leaves, a longish neck, and skin that characteristically cracks when fully ripe. Inside, it has a juicy bright red interior with rich berry flavor that growers consistently describe as intensely sweet, sometimes with hints of dates alongside the dominant strawberry character. It ripens closer to mid-season than the notably late Black Madeira and Col de Dame types. It is a common (self-fertile) fig and can produce both breba and main crops.
