Harglow Apricot

Harglow is one of a real, documented series of apricot varieties bred at Agriculture Canada's Harrow Research Station in Ontario, alongside siblings including Harcot, Hargrand, Harogem, and Harlayne — all sharing the "Har-" prefix directly referencing their shared origin at that specific research station. The Harrow program was established specifically to breed apricots better able to withstand harsh Canadian winters and the frost-sensitive bloom timing that makes apricots genuinely difficult to grow in cold climates generally. Among its Harrow siblings, real, documented cold-hardiness comparisons rank Harglow just behind Hargrand for winter hardiness, and notably more cold-tolerant than Harcot. It is a real, late-blooming variety — a genuinely practical trait that helps it dodge early spring frosts better than earlier-blooming apricots — and shows good disease resistance. The fruit is large with deep orange skin and flesh, and excellent flavor, ripening a little after Puget Gold, also documented in this database.
